With its educational concept, Heidelberg Zoo focuses on experiential learning. The Zoo Academy, the zoo's educational department, offers a wide range of events for different age groups, interests, and occasions, focusing on animals and nature, laboratories, technology, and exhibitions: workshops, holiday programs, tours, and more! The predecessors of today's Old Bridge were made of wood. As they were repeatedly destroyed by wars and floods, Elector Karl Theodor had a stone bridge built over the river (1786-1788). On the city side, the medieval bridge gate, part of the former city wall, has been preserved. On March 29, 1945, one of the last days of the war, German soldiers blew up the Heidelberg Neckar bridges, including the Old Bridge. Thanks to a fundraising campaign vigorously supported by the citizens, reconstruction began on March 14, 1946. The bridge was inaugurated in July 1947.There are two sculptures on the bridge: Elector Karl Theodor and the Roman goddess Minerva. And on the north bank of the bridge is the bridge's patron saint, Johannes Nepomuk. You can reach the Old Bridge from our boarding house by taking bus line 34 from the “Stadtwerke” stop, which will take you to the Old Bridge in 13 minutes.Körperwelten Museum At the KÖRPERWELTEN Museum in Heidelberg, you can discover what exactly lies beneath your skin and which structures are involved in creating feelings of happiness using real anatomical specimens.
